  3. Message of Secretary General

Bangladesh is a developing country. The Government is working tirelessly to build a happy, prosperous and peaceful country, free from poverty despite hundreds of difficulties and limitations. As a social welfare organization registered with the NGO Bureau under the office of the Honorable Prime Minister of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, the United Welfare society is committed to acting as a government partner in the development of the country.
We believe that excellence and progress in knowledge and science is the main engine for the development of the country and the nation. Therefore, one of our striving goals is to effectively contribute to the educational development of the country. Physical-infrastructural development of educational institutions in remote areas, the establishment of model educational institutions, organizing various workshops and trainings to ensure quality science-based education suitable for the 21st century, providing financial support to private teachers in low-paid jobs, providing scholarships, grants and educational materials to poor and talented students, Implementation of programs to prevent dropouts is our top priority.

Under the Government’s social security program, various projects are being implemented to improve the quality of life and employment of the neglected, deprived and poverty-stricken sections of the society, including marginalized groups living below the poverty line, street children, disabled, widows and divorced helpless women. In order to further expand the scope of this humanitarian program of the government, we have also taken up various projects including providing them with free education and training, providing necessary livelihood and arranging self-employment.
In addition to extending humanitarian aid to the oppressed Rohingya population of around one and a half million sheltered in Bangladesh, we are also keen to work to improve the quality of life of the local host communities who have been affected in various ways while sheltering them. In this regard, the development of the local education system, job-oriented training of youth and ensuring better health care are our priorities.

Although the United Welfare Society is a new organization, we have a young, competent, reliable, and energetic executive committee and a team of experienced, specialized diligent field workers. We firmly believe that we can play an effective role in building a happy and prosperous country with the sincere cooperation of domestic and foreign donor organizations.

Regards,

Mohammad Harunar Rashid
Secretary General
United Welfare Society
